2026 Project Story: Nepal

October 28, 2025

In rural Nepal, life is a tough uphill battle marked by deep poverty and limited opportunities for a brighter future. Families primarily rely on subsistence farming, but climate change is hurting crops, making food security a constant struggle. Education opportunities often feel out of reach due to overcrowded classrooms and a lack of resources, leading to high dropout rates– 19.7% –and leaving many children without the skills needed to escape poverty¹. Healthcare services are also inadequate, resulting in many simple medical needs going unmet, which creates a ripple effect of health issues that hinder both personal and community growth. With around 20 to 27 percent of the population living below the poverty line, rural regions are particularly impacted by these challenges².

Leprosy remains a significant struggle in Nepal, with approximately 3,500 individuals still living with the disease³. Beyond the physical effects, they endure substantial emotional and social consequences such as isolation and stigma, which aggravate their challenges including physical disabilities caused by nerve damage. Women raised in leprosy colonies, in particular, face extreme difficulties achieving self-sufficiency³. Additionally, Limited access to knowledge and skills on sustainable farming, renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly practices has further hindered communities in rural Nepal from adopting environmentally conscious and self-sustaining lifestyles.

To address these pressing issues, this summer HXP Builders will partner with KRMEF to construct a training hall in Nepal. This dynamic facility will foster sustainable community development by hosting capacity-building workshops, cultural exchanges, and educational programs focused on organic farming, renewable energy, waste management, health, and social entrepreneurship. By providing a space especially for women, youth, and marginalized groups, the project aims to empower individuals by allowing them to learn skills they wouldn’t learn otherwise while empowering the community to adopt sustainable practices and enact positive change. This training hall will serve as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange, significantly improving the lives of residents who might otherwise lack access to these vital skills.
