2026 Project Story: Belize Belmopan

October 28, 2025

Belize, known for its diverse culture, faces multiple educational challenges, especially in rural areas where limited infrastructure and resources significantly hinder student success.¹ Although the government has made strides by introducing free primary school education, about 19% of primary school-aged children are still unable to attend, and many drop out before completing their studies.² Rural schools often struggle with teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and financial constraints that limit their ability to purchase essential supplies or maintain facilities. These challenges create barriers to learning and perpetuate cycles of poverty, as students without access to quality education face limited opportunities for further education or employment.

In Belmopan, many school facilities are not sustainable for the students who attend.³ Issues such as cracked foundations have resulted in termite and ant infestations. The school also struggles with leaky roofs, rotting beams, and broken doors that compromise safety and comfort.⁴ Additionally, the excessive heat in these classrooms makes it difficult for students to concentrate and learn effectively. Without significant improvements, the learning environment will continue to limit students’ academic performance and overall well-being.

To help address these challenges, HXP Builders will partner with Arms of Love Primary School to complete unfinished classrooms and construct a new building to provide more individualized student instruction. These classrooms will support the school’s growing enrollment and provide long-term sustainability. By partnering with the local community and investing in high-quality infrastructure, this project aims to improve primary education access and empower students in Belize with greater opportunities for learning and development.
