2027 Project Story: Costa Rica Pura Vida South

November 2026

Costa Rica faces real educational challenges, especially in urban and surrounding neighborhood areas where rapid community growth stretches local public schools¹. While primary school is free and required for every child, about 18 percent of primary students struggle to reach basic reading goals due to packed classrooms and limited resources². Furthermore, national education data highlight that early childhood enrollment for young toddlers remains significantly constrained, with only a small fraction of three-year-olds accessing early learning programs nationwide³. Overcrowded public schools often battle to maintain safe, comfortable learning spaces, creating major hurdles for young kids during their most important developmental years⁴.

In San José, school facilities have a tough time keeping pace with the growing number of local kids enrolled¹. At one local elementary school serving 250 students, severe space shortages force prekindergarten and kindergarten classes to share a single classroom originally assigned to older students. Over 120 incoming pre-primary toddlers are currently squeezed into these cramped conditions. Without dedicated classrooms, dedicated teachers struggle to give young kids the individual attention and specialized activities they need to thrive².

To help address these challenges, HXP Builders will construct two new pre-primary classrooms at a local school. The new building will give prekindergarten and kindergarten students their own separate spaces every school day, directly improving learning for over 120 young children. Expanding campus space will also free up main classrooms for older primary students across the school. By investing in long-lasting, sustainable infrastructure, this project aims to expand early education access and give young students in Costa Rica a solid foundation for their future¹.
