Belize’s expanding educational opportunities remains a top priority for families across the country¹. Over half of Belizeans live below the national poverty line, with rural households facing the toughest economic hurdles¹. Access to early education is especially limited—fewer than 45 percent of young children are enrolled in preschool nationwide². As kids grow, overcrowded classrooms and limited resources make it hard to stay on track, leading many teens to leave school before graduating³. Local leaders and educators are working hard to change this by building stronger school facilities and giving young kids a solid foundation right in their own neighborhoods¹,².
In the fast-growing Cayo District near Belmopan, local schools are struggling to make room for all the young students moving into the area⁴. In Santa Elena Town, primary schools are facing huge demand for early childhood programs³,⁴. Because space on campus is so tight, dedicated teachers are forced to turn dozens of young kids away every single year³,⁴. Without a local preschool classroom, neighborhood toddlers miss out on early learning opportunities that build confidence and help them succeed when they start elementary school²,³.
This summer, HXP Builders are heading to the Belmopan area to team up with local community leaders and construction mentors to build a brand-new, permanent one-room preschool with two bathrooms attached. This new classroom will expand campus capacity, open up doors for local toddlers, and give kids a safe, welcoming place to start their education²,³. By serving with the local community, HXP Builders will help expand access to early learning and support a brighter future for local youth¹,².
