2027 Project Story: Belize Cayo

November 2026

Belize is celebrated for its rich culture and natural beauty, yet expanding access to quality education remains a vital focus for families across the nation¹. Nearly two-thirds of young children lack formal pre-primary preparation, and roughly 19 percent of the population experiences multidimensional poverty¹. Furthermore, resource-constrained and overcrowded classrooms make it difficult for primary-aged students to reach foundational learning benchmarks². To build a stronger foundation for the next generation, local educators and community leaders are actively stepping up to expand early learning capacity right in neighborhood schools¹.

In the Cayo District along the western border, these educational demands are especially visible. As one of the fastest-growing regions in Belize, Cayo’s school capacity struggles to keep pace with student enrollment. In border towns, primary schools face severe space shortages—often forcing hundreds of families onto waiting lists each school year. To squeeze everyone in, some schools are even forced to divide single classrooms with makeshift partitions so two teachers can instruct two different classes in one room at the same time. Without extra physical space, local children miss out on the individualized support and comfortable learning environments they need to thrive.

To help address these challenges, HXP Builders will head to the Cayo District to build a brand-new, permanent two-room preschool building. This new building will allow the local school to remove internal classroom partitions, expand campus capacity, and give students and teachers full, dedicated rooms for daily learning. The expansion will also create space for dozens of waiting-list students to enroll, giving young toddlers a safe, welcoming place to begin their education. HXP Builders will help expand access to early childhood education and support bright futures for youth in Belize.
