2027 Project Story: Ecuador Galapagos North

November 2026

Across Ecuador, public primary schools struggle to maintain basic classroom infrastructure and accommodate expanding student populations¹. National learning data reveals that over 65 percent of primary-aged students in Ecuador do not reach minimum foundational reading benchmarks, largely due to overcrowded facilities and limited physical space¹. With tight public budgets, schools across the country often lack the resources needed to expand campus capacity or provide dedicated, well-structured classrooms². As a result, teachers face immense pressure trying to deliver quality instruction in cramped spaces that were never intended to hold so many students³.

In the urban and surrounding neighborhood areas near Quito, these spatial constraints directly impact daily learning for local children¹. To cope with extreme classroom shortages, many local schools are forced to split single rooms in half using temporary dividers³. This creates tiny, noisy environments where two teachers instruct different classes side by side³. Managing split rooms and multi-grade groups in such restricted spaces makes it nearly impossible for teachers to give students individual attention, leading to high noise levels, frequent disruptions, and overcrowded conditions across upper-primary grades¹.

To help address these critical challenges, HXP Builders will construct three brand-new, permanent classrooms at a local primary school near Quito! At this school serving 127 total students, classes currently operate in cramped, divided spaces. Constructing these three new rooms will eliminate the need for makeshift classroom dividers and create dedicated learning spaces for sixth and seventh graders, alongside a structured space for specialized learning support. By expanding campus capacity, this project will give students and teachers room to thrive and ensure every child receives a quality education in a comfortable, welcoming environment¹.
