2027 Project Story: Nepal

November 2026

Framed by the soaring peaks of the Himalayas, Nepal is a nation rich in natural beauty, yet it faces pressing economic and educational hurdles ¹. A growing trend sees young people leaving their home communities for foreign employment and higher education abroad, leaving behind families reliant on overseas remittances ². Standardized schooling across Nepal heavily prioritizes test scores over practical skills, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving ³. International development benchmarks from global institutions emphasize that strengthening localized education is vital for youth retention and long-term economic resilience ⁴. To build a sustainable future, Nepal urgently needs learning environments that foster self-reliance and empower young generations to create opportunities within their homeland.

Right inside the Kathmandu Valley lies Dakshinkali Municipality.. It sits right where traditional rural life meets Nepal’s bustling capital city. While central Kathmandu boasts a high 89.2% literacy rate, outer spots like Dakshinkali drop to around 80%, with basic schools outnumbering high schools almost two-to-one. That creates a bottleneck where tons of kids get stuck after 8th grade with nowhere nearby to keep learning. Here, the Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation (KRMEF) runs an eco-friendly educational haven that uses hands-on, Waldorf-inspired learning to help local students grow into creative, confident leaders who stay connected to their roots.

To address these pressing issues, this summer HXP Builders will partner with KRMEF to construct an upper junior high classroom set to open in 2027. KRMEF is providing the land and funding essential plumbing, electrical work, and windows, while HXP Builders will contribute the structure and mainpower. Operating daily, the classroom will initially serve over 30 students while paving the way to add one higher grade each year. This expansion provides a permanent educational pathway that equips young Nepalis with the practical skills needed to build futures at home.
