Across Paraguay, 1 in 4 children and adolescents are completely out of school, pointing to a massive national educational barrier ¹. This crisis is driven largely by underfunded infrastructure, with roughly 40% of schools across the country rated in poor physical condition and 11% lacking access to basic safe water ². Compounded by high national poverty rates affecting 32.8% of youth ³, overcrowded facilities and inadequate learning spaces force thousands of students out of the classroom every year.
In the capital city of Asunción, urban inequality leaves lower-income communities particularly underserved. In one neighborhood, local public schools face extreme overcrowding, with more than 62% of low-income families in the area constantly exposed to flood risks and economic instability ⁴. At one local school serving 800 students, severe space shortages force entire classes to hold daily lessons inside the busy noise and constant food smells of the cafeteria, while over 100 hopeful students are turned away every year simply because there isn't a single seat left.
To help solve this shortage, HXP Builders will construct a brand-new, three-classroom school block in the schoolyard. This addition will immediately create three fully equipped learning spaces, allowing entire classes to permanently move out of the noisy dining hall into dedicated rooms built for focus. By expanding the campus footprint, this new structure eliminates the physical bottleneck that forces the school to turn away 100 applicants each year, opening up enough desk capacity for every child in the community to enroll and receive a quality education.
