Across northern Peru's coastal region, securing adequate healthcare facilities and sustainable community infrastructure is essential for improving public health outcomes and lifting vulnerable families out of economic hardship ¹. According to the INEI and the OECD, over 27% of the national population lives below the poverty line, with significant health and economic disparities impacting peri-urban and migrant households ¹ ². In expanding coastal hubs, establishing permanent centers that combine accessible preventative care with local economic opportunities is a critical priority to ensure low-income families gain vital medical support, dignified employment, and affordable household resources ³.
In the Lambayeque department of northwestern Peru, access to basic medical services and affordable consumer goods remains heavily divided between central commercial zones and surrounding rural communities ⁴. Many families working in informal commerce and agricultural sectors struggle without reliable health insurance or the financial flexibility to pay for private medical care. Local residents frequently go without basic doctor or dentist visits, while limited household budgets make purchasing essential daily items extremely difficult, putting continuous financial and physical strain on growing neighborhoods.
This summer, HXP Builders joins forces with a local non-profit partner to construct a brand-new, multi-purpose community facility. Youth volunteers will help construct a modern building designed to house a dedicated health clinic, providing essential preventative medical and dental care directly to surrounding families. Additionally, part of the facility will operate as a community second-hand store, creating local jobs for residents while giving neighborhood families a dignified, accessible place to purchase affordable goods. This project immediately bridges health and economic gaps, empowering local families with better care and sustainable opportunities for years to come.
