2027 Project Story: Peru Andes

November 2026

Across northern Peru, strengthening early childhood education is a vital key for closing systemic learning divides and empowering young students ¹. While Peru's national preschool enrollment exceeds 84%, official OECD studies reveal a 12 percentage point enrollment gap between the country's wealthiest and poorest socioeconomic groups ². In expanding urban centers where regional informal employment reaches a high 74%, low-income working families struggle to afford private early care, leaving thousands of young children without access to structured foundational learning ³.

In the regional Trujillo area, rapid urban expansion around provincial centers has created severe disparities in educational access and institutional support ⁴. In this region, roughly 17.8% of young children in vulnerable peri-urban and migrant households remain entirely un-enrolled in preschool, while over 74% of workers operate in the informal economy without consistent childcare benefits ³. High levels of informal work leave working parents with few affordable options for early childhood care, making public and community-backed preschool centers essential infrastructure for neighborhood stability and early childhood development.

HXP is partnering with a community organization to construct classrooms to assist the local community. This build expands the campus footprint, giving local teachers the physical space required to welcome dozens of young learners into a safe, vibrant environment every day. Final details on the number of classrooms and students who will benefit are still being confirmed in collaboration with the school. Builders are helping families secure quality early care, sparking childhood development, and setting up the neighborhood's youngest students for long-term academic success.
