2027 Project Story: Philippines Luzon South

November 2026

Across the Philippines, proper nutrition and adequate school infrastructure are foundational to early childhood development and long-term academic success. World Bank and UNICEF reports highlight that nearly one in three Filipino children under five suffers from stunting caused by chronic undernutrition, directly impacting their cognitive growth, classroom attendance, and daily energy levels. While the Department of Education (DepEd) mandates national School-Based Feeding Programs (SBFP) to deliver hot, nutritious meals to elementary students, many public schools lack dedicated, hygienic physical spaces to cook, serve, and host these daily meal initiatives.

In the city of San Pablo, Laguna, public elementary schools serving kindergarten through sixth-grade students strive to maintain clean, welcoming, and uplifting campus environments. However, without a dedicated communal hall, local schools struggle to implement mandatory feeding programs effectively. During lunch periods, teachers are forced to serve meals inside already crowded classrooms or in exposed outdoor areas, where food preparation and seating are compromised by tropical heat and heavy rains. Beyond meal times, the campus lacks a centralized, sheltered facility to host physical education classes, school assemblies, and rainy-day student activities. In close collaboration with the local DepEd division office, school leadership has identified a permanent multipurpose hall as the single highest priority needed to support student health, nutrition, and community growth.

Alongside local builders, school administrators, and community partners, HXP Builders will construct a brand-new, permanent multipurpose building on campus. Designed with strong, weather-resilient foundations and high-airflow ventilation, this spacious hall will serve as a clean, dignified home for the school's daily feeding program, ensuring every kindergarten through sixth-grade student receives nutritious hot meals in a safe, hygienic environment. Additionally, this flexible building will double as a sheltered hub for school assemblies, indoor activities, and community gatherings for generations to come.
