2027 Project Story: Zimbabwe

November 2026

Across Zimbabwe, securing safe, permanent classroom space is a major key for keeping young people in school and giving them a solid base for the future ¹. National statistics from UNICEF and the World Bank show that while primary attendance is high, over 25% of primary schools nationwide face massive room shortages, leaving hundreds of thousands of students without proper indoor learning spaces ² ³. In low-income peri-urban communities right outside the Harare metropolitan area, families rely heavily on informal vending and daily caretaking work, making it tough for local fee-funded efforts to keep up with growing student enrollment ⁴.

In the Harare Province, one primary school serves as a crucial learning hub for 1,133 children from surrounding neighborhoods. Despite incredible community spirit—with parents, local boards, and faith groups teaming up to put up initial structures, drill a borehole, and set up basic sanitation—the campus is pushed way past its limits. 16 classes are forced to spend all or part of their school day learning outside under the open sun, creatively using the building's exterior brick walls as makeshift chalkboards. When heavy rains hit or the heat picks up, outdoor lessons get totally disrupted, putting students' focus and comfort on hold.

To tackle this space crunch, HXP Builders are linking up with local tradespeople and community leaders to construct a brand-new, permanent multi-classroom block. This build immediately moves outdoor classes inside, giving hundreds of students a bright, dry, and climate-safe space to learn and thrive every single day. By locking in permanent physical infrastructure, the project eases crazy room congestion, backs dedicated teachers, and ensures every student on campus gets a real seat indoors to build a brighter future.
